Description

DulcoLax Bisacodyl 5mg 30 Gastro-resistant Tablets

What is DulcoLax?

DulcoLax is a medicine that contains bisacodyl as its active ingredient. It belongs to the group of stimulant laxatives.

How does DulcoLax work?

DulcaLax is a stimulant laxative and works by direct contact with the intestinal mucosa, stimulating the nerve endings in the intestinal wall, thereby increasing motility and facilitating the passage of stools.

What is DulcoLax used for?

DulcoLax is indicated for the symptomatic relief of occasional constipation in adults, adolescents and children over 10 years of age.

Consult your doctor if your condition worsens or does not improve after 7 days of treatment.

How should DulcoLax be taken?

  • The recommended dose of DulcoLax for adults is 1 tablet (5 mg of bisacodyl) per day before bedtime. If necessary, 2 tablets may be taken. Always use the lowest effective dose.

Swallow the tablet whole, without chewing, with plenty of liquid, at night or in the morning on an empty stomach.

  • The recommended dose of DulcoLax for adolescents and children over 10 years of age is 1 tablet (5 mg bisacodyl) per day before bedtime. If necessary, 2 tablets may be taken.

  • The dose of DulcoLax for children aged 2 to 10 years is only under medical supervision: 1 tablet (5 mg bisacodyl) per day before bedtime.

Children under 2 years of age cannot take this medicine; it is contraindicated for them.

How long does it take for DulcoLax to take effect?

If you take DulcoLax Bisacodyl 5 mg at night, defecation will occur in approximately 10 hours.

If taken in the morning on an empty stomach, defecation will occur in approximately 6 hours.

If symptoms worsen, if no bowel movement occurs after 12 hours of taking 2 tablets, or if symptoms persist for more than 7 days of treatment, you should consult your doctor.

Before you start taking the medicine

The attached tab contains the PACKAGE LEAFLET, which lists possible DulcoLax contraindications, interactions, side effects, warnings and precautions.

Do not take Dulcolax

  • If you are allergic to bisacodyl or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.

  • If you have abdominal pain of unknown origin.

  • If you suffer from intestinal obstruction or paralytic ileus.

  • If you suffer from appendicitis or intestinal perforation.

  • If you have gastrointestinal bleeding or inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease.

  • If you suffer from water or electrolyte metabolism disorders.

Warnings and precautions

  • DulcoLax should not be taken continuously on a daily basis or for long periods without investigating the cause of constipation.

  • If you are over 65 years of age or are a debilitated patient, you should drink plenty of fluids and mineral salts and tell your doctor that you are using a laxative to avoid dehydration problems.

  • If you experience dizziness or fainting while using this medicine, it may be due to constipation and not necessarily to the use of this medicine. These symptoms may occur as a result of straining during bowel movements or as a response to abdominal pain.

  • Dulcolax and weight loss. Stimulant laxatives, including Dulcolax, do not aid weight loss.

Taking DulcoLax with food and drink

  • It is contraindicated to take liquorice while taking DulcoLax.

Avoid taking Dulcolaxo with milk, or space out your doses by 2 hours, as the absorption of this medicine may be increased if taken at the same time.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking DulcoLax Bisacodyl.

Driving and using machines

While taking this type of laxative, a vagal response is possible. If you experience abdominal cramps or dizziness, you should avoid potentially dangerous tasks such as driving or operating machinery.

DulcoLax Bisacodyl 5 mg also contains sucrose, lactose and castor oil.

You will find detailed information about each of these in the package leaflet.
