- PEPTIC ULCER]. Patients with active peptic ulcer should avoid the use of harpagofito, due to the risk of aggravation of the ulceration, and therefore, gastric haemorrhage and perforation.

Precautions

- History of peptic ulcer. There are no reports of peptic ulcer and/or gastric haemorrhage following the use of harpagophytum, although some authors claim that it could cause gastric damage. Therefore, extreme caution is advised in patients who have previously had peptic ulcers. - Joint inflammation. If joint pain is accompanied by joint swelling, redness or fever, it is advisable to consult a doctor, as this may mask more serious injuries.

Patient advice

- If joint pain is accompanied by joint swelling, redness or fever, a doctor should be consulted.

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, so devil's claw should not be used except in situations where the benefits outweigh the possible risks in the absence of safer therapeutic alternatives.
