What Buscapidol capsules is and what it is used for

Buscapidol is a herbal medicine containing peppermint essential oil. It is used to relieve discomfort and pain from mild spasms of the gastrointestinal tract and flatulence or bloating.

Buscapidol is indicated for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age, weighing at least 40 kg.

How to take Buscapidol capsules

The recommended dose is for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age, weighing at least 40 kg: 1 capsule 3 times a day.

The capsules are taken orally without chewing or breaking them.

They should be taken with sufficient liquid, 30 minutes before a meal.

Buscapidol should be taken until symptoms subside, usually within one to two weeks.

Consult a doctor if it worsens or does not improve after 2 weeks.

Use in children and adolescents

Buscapidol should not be administered to children under 12 years of age or to adolescents weighing less than 40 kg.

Other medicines and Buscapidol

No interaction studies have been done. Consult your doctor.

Avoid the use of other medicines used to reduce gastric acidity: antihistamines, antacids, which can dissolve the coating of the capsule. Separate your intake from other medicines by 2 hours.

Taking Buscapidol with food

If you eat food at the same time as taking this medicine, the contents of the capsule may be released prematurely.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility

Pregnancy

It is not recommended to take Buscapidol during pregnancy. There is not enough data on humans.

Breastfeeding

It is not recommended to take Buscapidol during breastfeeding. Peppermint oil can be excreted in breast milk.

Fertility

It is not known whether Peppermint oil has any effect on fertility.

Driving and use of machines

There are no studies on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines.

Buscapidol contains sodium

Although its quantity is very low.

Composition of Buscapidol

- Active ingredient: Peppermint essential oil Each gastro-resistant softgel contains 0.2 ml.

Equivalent to 181.6 mg of Mentha x piperite L., aetheroleum (peppermint essential oil)

- Other components

Capsule cover: Gelatin, Glycerol, Purified water, Yellow iron oxide (E172), Brilliant blue FCF (E133), Medium chain triglycerides,

Sunflower lecithin.

Coating: Copolymer of methacrylic acid and ethyl acrylate (1:1) dispersion at 30 %, Triethyl citrate, Glycerol monostearate 40-55, Polysorbate 80, Sodium dodecyl sulphate

Buscapidol is presented in oval, dull green soft capsules containing a colourless, light yellow to light greenish yellow liquid.
