What is Reflex Spray and what is it used for?
Reflex Spray is a medicine belonging to the group of topical anti-inflammatories. It comes in a solution to be sprayed on the skin.
Reflex Spray is indicated for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older to relieve muscle and joint pain in contusions, sprains, tendinitis, and strains.
Trauma from blows without open wounds, muscle cramps, stiff neck, back pain such as lumbago.
Consult a doctor if the condition worsens or does not improve after 7 days of treatment.
How to use Reflex Spray
The recommended dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older is 1 spray per application.
As needed, you can repeat up to a maximum of 4 applications per day.
It is for use on intact skin only.
Apply directly to the area to be treated without rubbing.
Hold the spray about 20 centimetres from the skin and press the valve, keeping the container upright for a few seconds.
Wait for it to evaporate, without rubbing or massaging.
Wash your hands after each application.
Children
Reflex Spray is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.
Children are particularly sensitive, especially infants, to certain components, which may cause a drop in blood pressure, suffocation, blue discolouration of the skin and convulsions.
Elderly patients
No dose adjustment is necessary in elderly patients.
However, caution is recommended due to the possibility of increased absorption as the skin may be thinner.
Use of Reflex Spray with other medicines
Do not use this medicine excessively or chronically, especially if you are being treated with warfarin, which is an anticoagulant, as Reflex contains methyl salicylate and could increase the risk of bleeding from warfarin.
Simultaneous application with other topical medicines that also contain analgesics and rubefacients is not recommended, as this may increase the adverse effects.
This medicine contains methyl salicylate, which may interact with other keratolytic agents, enhancing their effect.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Reflex spray is not recommended for use during pregnancy. If used, the dose and duration of treatment should be kept to a minimum. Consult your doctor.
One of the active ingredients in Reflex spray, salicylate, passes into breast milk in low concentrations. In rare cases, adverse effects have been observed in newborns and breastfeeding infants.
Reflex is not recommended during breastfeeding.
Driving and using machines
This medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
Reflex Spray contains dimethyl sulfoxide, which may cause irritation of the skin.
Composition of Reflex Spray
- Active ingredients: Each millilitre contains 65 mg of turpentine oil, 40 mg of camphor, 40 mg of menthol, and 25 mg of methyl salicylate.
- Excipients: Isopropyl alcohol, dimethyl sulfoxide, benzyl alcohol (E-1519). Propellant gas: carbon dioxide.

Reflex Spray comes in an aluminium pressurised container with a valve. It is a colourless liquid solution for application to the skin.
