What is Cinfamucol Carbocisteine?

Cinfamucol Carbocisteine is a medicine whose active ingredient is carbocisteine. It belongs to the group of mucolytic medicines.

What is Cinfamucol Carbocisteine used for?

Cinfamucol carbocisteine is indicated to facilitate the elimination of excess phlegm and mucus in colds and flu in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older.

How to take Cinfamucol Carbocisteine

Follow the instructions in the package leaflet or as directed by your pharmacist. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Dosage

• The recommended dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older is 15 ml of oral solution every 8 hours, equivalent to 2.25 g of carbocisteine.

• Do not take more than 2.25 g per day, divided into 3 doses.

• When you notice an improvement, reduce to 1.5 g in 24 hours divided into 2 doses.

Administration

• Carbocisteine Cinfamucol is administered orally.

• Measure the required amount using the measuring cup provided in the package.

• It is preferable to take it before meals.

• It is recommended to drink a glass of water after each dose and plenty of fluids throughout the day.

• If your condition worsens, or if there is no improvement after 5 days of treatment, or if you have a fever, skin rash, headache or sore throat, consult your doctor.

Children

Children under 12 years of age cannot take this medicine.

Taking Cinfamucol Carbocisteine with other medicines

• Do not take Cinfamucol Carbocisteine syrup together with antitussive (cough suppressant) medicines.

• Do not take Cinfamucol syrup with medicines that reduce bronchial secretions, as this may cause an accumulation of fluidised mucus.

Taking Cinfamucol Carbocisteine with food and drink

It is best taken before meals.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

It should not be used during pregnancy unless advised by your doctor.

Driving and using machines

Cinfamucol Carbocisteine has no or negligible influence.

Cinfamucol Carbocisteine contains orange yellow (E-110), methyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium and maltitol.

• It may cause allergic reactions because it contains orange yellow (E-110). It may cause asthma, especially in patients allergic to acetylsalicylic acid.

• It may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed) because it contains methyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoate.

• It contains 133.5 mg of sodium per 15 ml.

• It contains maltitol (E-965). If you are intolerant to certain sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Composition of Cinfamucol Carbocisteine

• Active ingredient: Each millilitre of solution contains 50 milligrams of carbocisteine.

• Excipients: Liquid maltitol (E-965), sodium hydroxide (E-524), sodium citrate (E-331), propylene glycol (E-1520), hydroxyethylcellulose, citric acid monohydrate, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (sodium salt), sodium saccharin, orange flavouring, propyl parahydroxybenzoate (sodium salt), orange yellow (E-110) and purified water.
