Action and mechanism
Acts as a dopamine D2 receptor agonist inhibiting pituitary prolactin secretion. It also reduces pituitary release of luteinising hormone and follicle stimulating hormone. Agnus castus improves some of the symptoms of premenstrual tension and has also been shown to have a diuretic effect.
Indications
- MAMMARY TENSION], [MASTALGIA], [PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME]: relief of the painful bloating and tension of pre-menstrual syndrome and the irritability resulting from these symptoms.
Posology
Adults, oral: 4 mg/24 h.
- Duration of treatment: Treatment should be continued for at least 3 menstrual cycles.
Guidelines for correct administration
The medicine should be taken at the same time of the day.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the medicinal product.
- PITUITARY TUMOUR].
- BREAST CANCER].
- Pregnancy and lactation.
Warnings about excipients:
- This medicinal product contains glucose. Patients with glucose or galactose malabsorption should not take this medicinal product.

Precautions
- This medicinal product should be avoided in women taking oestrogens, including contraceptive preparations.
Interactions
- Dopaminergic antagonists: probable reduction of the therapeutic effect of this medicinal product.
Pregnancy
No adequate studies have been performed in pregnant women. Use contraindicated.
Lactation
Due to its dopaminergic effects it inhibits prolactin secretion, and therefore milk production, so its use is contraindicated during lactation.
Children
Its use is not appropriate in this age group.
Elderly
Not for use in this age group.
Adverse reactions
Generally well tolerated, with mild and transient adverse reactions.
- Dermatological: Occasionally, [URTICARIA], [PRURITO].
In case of skin rash or pruritus, treatment should be discontinued and the doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.
