Cholesterol is a group of lipoproteins that form part of the membrane of all cells. It is the basis of many hormones and fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin D and bile. It is undoubtedly necessary for daily life, but in the recommended values.
There are four classes of plasma lipoproteins but there are two more well known ones that you may have heard of.
